The criteria used during the recruiting process include a strong academic record, excellent writing skills, well-rounded background, varied employment experience, extracurricular activities, and interests. Generally, we seek students with a class standing in the top quarter of their class. While we are impressed with students with a demonstrated interest in the various areas of our practice, we are also looking to hire applicants without such backgrounds.
Barger & Wolen is committed to hiring through the summer associate program. Many of the partners and associates were themselves summer associates at the firm. Barger & Wolen has a tradition of retaining associates who eventually become partners of the firm.
The summer associate program is designed to provide a “snapshot” of what it is like to be an associate of the firm. Summer associates are given assignments such as legal research projects, writing, attending hearings, trials and other legal proceedings, assisting with depositions and mock trials. Each summer associate is given a mentor, someone who can tutor and advise the summer associate during his or her stay at the firm. Through the summer associate program, we endeavor to give our summer associates broad exposure to the firm’s diverse practice groups.
The firm encourages female and minority candidates to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, religion, disability, ethnic background, national origin, gender or sexual orientation.
